For pet urine, it’s ideal to clean up the stain as soon as possible. However, oftentimes these accidents happen when the owner is away from home, and so they sit for several hours at least. If that’s the case, you’ll follow the same cleaning process as you would with fresh stains, you just may have to repeat the steps a few times.
Using a clean towel, soak up as much of the urine as necessary. Using a cleaning solution of equal parts white vinegar and water, soak the stain and then use a soft bristle brush to work over the stain. Finally, blot the stain with a clean towel. Repeat as necessary.
If the vinegar solution isn’t working, you can try another cleaning solution with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. First, you’ll want to mix ½ of hydrogen peroxide with 2 cups of water. Next, sprinkle some baking soda onto the stain. Then, use a spray bottle to cover the stain with this solution. Use a brush to work the solution into the stain, and then let it sit for a few hours. Once it’s dry, use a vacuum to clean up any of the leftover baking soda.
