Throughout North Carolina, we’ve been experiencing some winter weather lately, and this weekend’s forecast is calling for even more snow. While the snow is pretty, it can leave behind a muddy mess once it starts to melt. Don’t let the mess that the snow leaves behind keep you from enjoying the winter wonderland outside. Here are some tips to help you clean mud out of your carpet:
It might be your first impulse to try to wipe up mud as soon as you see it. However, this can spread it and just make an even bigger mess. Instead, you should let the mud dry first and then try to vacuum up as much as you can. Then, make a cleaning solution with several cups of warm water and about a tablespoon of dish soap. Use a white dish towel to blot the stain with the solution. Finish it off with a new towel and some cold water.
If your yard is made up of that North Carolina red clay, you can take a little bit of a different approach to clean it out of your carpet. Like regular mud, you should let it dry first and then vacuum up what you can. Once you’ve done that, you’ll want to make a cleaning solution of 1 part Shout and 4 parts water. Put that in a spray bottle and cover the stain, then blot. If that doesn’t remove all of the stain, you can then make a cleaning solution with 1 part ammonia and 6 parts water; spray that on the stain and blot. Pat dry with a clean towel when done.
